MELLRICHSTADT (FE)

The high water pressure system called PeelJet, developed by company Weigel Hochdrucktechnik located in Mellrichstadt, Germany, ranks as the worldwide gentlest method for removal of paint markings as well as friction improvement.  On 27 February, Wednesday and 28 February, Thursday the “PeelJet Competence Days” took place at the premises of Weigel.

65 high ranking experts from all over the world (e.g. from Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Greece, Spain, Netherlands, Great Britain, Poland, Czech Republic, Cyprus and New Zealand) arrived for technical presentations and technology discussions. The participants were impressed by the technical demonstration of the PeelJet, paint removal and friction improvement system by Weigel, made on a closed road near the Weigel premises in Mellrichstadt. “Even in Bavaria they heard our call,” noticed Bernd Weigel, CEO of Weigel Hochdrucktechnik.
An improved grip on roads is crucial for lowering the number of accident, according Weigel.
The grip is stated with the sideway-force coefficient, SFC at a value of 0.6 on new road surfaces.
According to inspections on European level, the number of accidents is increased by 20 at a reduced, worse value of 0.45, at a value of 0.3 even 300 times.

As the invited experts are also interested in topics like friction measurement, new road surfaces, new marking techniques etc. there were also other topics offered on the agenda, which are not in the Weigel product range. There were for example technical presentations about measurement norms made by an expert from Spain. As English was the common tongue on the PeelJet days, Technical Director Stefan Weigel and Sales Director Gerd Heinrich took over the part of interpreters.

An expert from the local road construction authority Schweinfurt reported about the connection of accidents and skid resistance of road pavements. He also analyzed accident black spots and accident frequency by means of road conditions in several regions. Another very interesting subject for these experts was the marking system of the Norwegian company Trysil, called Traffic Printer. They showed that besides all common traffic signs, also individual logos can be printed on the pavement, which were uploaded to the machine by computer. This way the logo of company Reich from Mellrichstadt was printed on their yard and Karl-Hermann Reich also got “his wished elk” printed on the plant grounds. “All this has the reason of bringing our customers together with other companies and maintaining business relationships, which benefit us again on the long run,” commented Bernd Weigel.

During rain the pavement on the road „Stockheimer Straße“ allows partially a max. speed of only 80 km/h. After resurfacing with PeelJet this will not be the case anymore, when we are finished with our treatment, ensures Bernd Weigel. The PeelJet system, developed and manufactured at Weigel Hochdrucktechnik, works with a water pressure of 2500 bar. In one hour you can clean between 150 and 500 m². Bernd Weigel is pleased to say that the order books are full. 2 machines were sold to customers in Saudi Arabia this year and 1 each to customers in Russia, Belgium and Qatar, whereby this machines will also be operated on airports, in order to remove the rubber built by airplane tires.

Since 30 years, company Weigel has specialized in high water pressure technology, since 15 years they have gained experience with their TrackJet system on about 180 airports worldwide. With the PeelJet system this technology is now also available for maintenance of public roads. The PeelJet components are assembled on the front of the truck and control the positioning and movement of the working head. The fresh water supply, abrasion direct suction and waste water storage are combined in the VacuFlex direct suction system on the loading platform of the truck.

Among others, the PeelJet Unimog system has been demonstrated for paint removal. Weigel is pleased that there developed a good cooperation with the carrier vehicle manufacturer Mercedes-Benz. On exhibitions there are often Weigel machines presented on Mercedes stands. There are approximately 20 employees at Weigel Hochdrucktechnik in Mellrichstadt, Germany, and about half of the staff is also in operation abroad for machine installation, trainings, repair and maintenance works.
